Poshmark's feed shows cover shots as squares, and it shows them small. A three-wick jar photographed vertically from four feet away becomes a pale blob with unreadable text at thumbnail size. Shoot at 1:1 from the start, or shoot 4:5 with generous headroom so you can crop to square without slicing the lid or the label. Fill roughly two thirds to three quarters of the square with the candle itself.
For tall tapers, dinner candles, and pillar sets, stop trying to stand them up. Lay them at a slight diagonal on a neutral surface so the length runs corner to corner, which is the only way a long, thin object uses a square frame. For sets, group them in a tight cluster rather than a wide row. Shoot at label height, not down from above, so the printed scent name stays rectangular instead of curving away.
Killing Reflections in Glass Jars and Metal Tins
Glossy jar glass and brushed tins mirror everything in the room. Shoot near a window with the light coming from the side, not behind you, and stand off to the side of the candle rather than square in front of it so your silhouette does not land in the glass. A white foam board or a plain sheet held opposite the window fills shadow without adding a second hard highlight. Turn off overhead lights so you are not mixing warm bulbs with daylight, which is what turns cream soy wax greenish.
Wipe fingerprints and dust off the jar first; on Poshmark those read as grime and trigger questions. Never use flash, which blows a white starburst right over the label. If you want to show the candle lit, do it as a secondary photo only, since a flame will underexpose the label and the vessel around it.
