AI Baked Goods Photography for Shopify
Transform your baked goods photos into Shopify-ready product images. Professional backgrounds, perfect lighting, and marketplace-compliant quality.
Bakery products are the hardest category to sell from a thumbnail, because the thing that makes a croissant or a brownie worth $6 is texture, and texture is the first thing that dies in a 300 pixel product card. Shopify makes this worse in one specific way: your theme, not Shopify, decides how the image gets cropped, so a photo that looks perfect in the admin can arrive on the collection grid with the top of the layer cake sliced off.
Shopify is also unusually permissive. There is no white background rule, no single mandated aspect ratio, and no image review queue. That freedom is why most bakery stores look inconsistent: one scone shot on marble, one cupcake on a dark board, one cookie stack lit with a phone flash, all stacked in the same grid.
What you actually need to get right is a repeatable setup that survives the crop, holds golden crust color without going orange, keeps glaze highlights from blowing out at zoom resolution, and communicates portion size honestly enough that a customer who ordered a dozen macarons is not surprised by the box that shows up.

Framing Bakes That Survive Theme Cropping
Upload square. Shopify's own guidance points at 2048 x 2048 pixels, and square is the only ratio that behaves predictably across Dawn and most paid themes, whether the product card is set to square, portrait, or adapt to image. The trap for baked goods is that most themes center-crop, and bakes are rarely centered subjects. A three tier cake, a tall cinnamon roll stack, or a baguette all want vertical or horizontal room the square denies them.
Shoot with deliberate headroom: leave roughly 10 to 15 percent clear space above the tallest point of a cake and the same below the base plate, so a tighter theme crop still shows a whole object. For long items like loaves and baguettes, angle them diagonally into the frame instead of running them flat left to right. Then keep every product in a collection on the identical ratio and identical subject scale, or your grid will look like five different bakeries.
Variant Photos for Flavors and Box Counts
Bakery catalogs are variant heavy, and Shopify only swaps the featured image when you explicitly assign an image to a variant. If you sell a cookie box in chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, and double chocolate, each of those needs its own photograph attached to the variant, shot in the same position, same distance, same board, so the swap reads as a flavor change and not a camera move. Reuse of one hero image across flavors is the most common bakery mistake on Shopify and it drives flavor mix-up refunds.
Quantity variants are the second trap. A photo showing six macarons attached to a twelve piece option is the kind of mismatch that generates chargebacks. Shoot the actual count for each tier, or shoot the actual retail box open with the real arrangement. If you push products to Google Shopping through Shopify, keep "1 DOZEN" text and price badges out of the image itself, because promotional overlays get feed items disapproved.
