AI Cosmetics Photography for Shopify
Transform your cosmetics photos into Shopify-ready product images. Professional backgrounds, perfect lighting, and marketplace-compliant quality.
Shopify is unusual among sales channels because it barely polices your product images. There is no white background rule, no minimum frame fill, no rejection email. That freedom is exactly the problem for cosmetics: a store selling one serum, four lipstick shades and a powder compact ends up with three different backgrounds, three different bottle sizes on screen, and shade photos that do not match the shade names. Shopify will publish all of it, and the collection grid will make the inconsistency obvious.
What Shopify does enforce is technical: files up to 20 MB and 20 megapixels, JPEG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC or GIF, up to 250 media items per product. Zoom and retina display quality depend on you uploading large enough files, and Shopify recommends 2048 x 2048 px for that reason. Your theme then crops everything to one media aspect ratio, which is where tall serum droppers and squat cream jars start fighting each other.
The hard part is the product itself. Glass, chrome caps, gloss black tubes and transparent gels all reflect your studio back at the camera, and cosmetics buyers judge color at thumbnail size before they ever open the product page.

Perfect For
Fitting Bottles, Jars and Palettes Into One Ratio
Pick one media aspect ratio in your theme settings and shoot every cosmetic to it, rather than letting the theme adapt to each first image. Square (2048 x 2048) is the safest because it survives Shopify's Shop channel, Google Shopping and Meta catalog feeds without side crops. The trade off is that a 100 ml pump bottle and a 15 g lip balm both sit in a square frame, so scale has to be communicated on purpose: keep the tallest item in your line at roughly 85 to 90 percent of frame height and scale everything else proportionally, so a mini travel size reads as small in the grid instead of looking full size.
If your range is mostly tall droppers and mists, 4:5 portrait is kinder, but commit to it store wide. Leave even margins, because Shopify pads or trims mismatched ratios and off-center bottles drift visibly in a three-across collection row on desktop.
Shade Variants, Swatches and Color Accuracy
Every shade in a foundation or lipstick range needs its own variant image, and Shopify shows that image the instant a shopper taps the variant. If shade 3 was shot on a different day with a different white balance, it looks like a different formula. Lock camera settings, light position and background, then shoot the whole shade run in one session, and include a gray card frame so you can apply identical white balance across the set.
Deep reds, corals and fuchsias clip fast in sRGB, which is what Shopify serves. Check the red channel before export and pull saturation rather than letting the highlight of a lipstick bullet flatten into a single flat blob. Pair each pack shot with an arm or lip swatch on at least two skin tones, exported at the same crop and distance so shoppers can compare shades honestly, which is the cheapest returns reduction available in cosmetics.
