Electronics are the hardest thing to photograph on eBay and the easiest category to lose money in when the photos are weak. The practical target is a clean, square, reflection-free hero shot that survives the search grid at thumbnail size, followed by a set of unglamorous evidence photos: powered-on screen, every scuff, every port, every included cable. Get both halves right and "not as described" cases largely disappear.

Point a small hard light at it and you get a bright hotspot; shoot in a bright room and you get the window, the shelf and your own arms. The fix is to control what the surface is allowed to reflect. Use one large diffused source placed well off-axis, drape or gray card everything in front of the item, and shoot from a slightly high angle so the glass reflects the neutral floor of your setup rather than your camera. A polarizing filter tames glossy plastic and painted metal, though it will not remove a reflection from an active LCD.
For powered-on shots, drop screen brightness to roughly half, use a shutter speed of 1/60 or slower to avoid refresh banding, and tilt a few degrees off perpendicular so moire patterns break up. Wipe fingerprints with a microfiber cloth first, because eBay zoom shows every one.
Photo Evidence That Survives eBay Buyer Claims
On eBay, your photo set is the document you will be judged against if a buyer opens a "not as described" case. For used electronics, shoot the actual unit, never a manufacturer render, and build the gallery like a condition report: powered-on screen showing a normal desktop or home screen, the settings page for battery health or serial where relevant, close-ups of each corner and bezel, the charging port and headphone jack lit at a raking angle so wear shows, and a flat lay of exactly the cables, remotes and adapters included.
Photograph the model and regulatory label on the underside so buyers can match compatibility, and crop or angle away from full serial numbers rather than painting a block over them, since heavy added graphics can trip eBay's no-text rule. Photograph scratches honestly and up close. A visible flaw in image seven costs less than a return and a defect on your account.
