AI Soap Photography for Shopify
Transform your soap photos into Shopify-ready product images. Professional backgrounds, perfect lighting, and marketplace-compliant quality.
Shopify does not police your photos the way a marketplace does. There is no white-background rule, no forced main-image crop, no rejection email. That freedom is exactly why so many soap stores look inconsistent: one bar shot on slate, the next on linen, a third floating on pure white, all cropped differently by the same collection grid. On a handmade soap store, where the product is a small, matte-to-satin block that photographs flatter than it looks in hand, that inconsistency reads as amateur before a visitor ever gets to your scent descriptions.
The practical targets are simple. Shopify recommends square images around 2048 x 2048 px, accepts up to 20 MP and 20 MB per file, supports JPEG, PNG, WebP and HEIC, and allows up to 250 media items per product. Product zoom only feels useful if the file is genuinely large, and zoom is where soap sells: the cut face, the mica line, the embedded oat flakes.
What you actually have to solve is soap-specific: soda ash haze, colorants that clip in sRGB, translucent glycerin bars that die under front light, and bars that give a buyer no sense of scale until it arrives smaller than the photo promised.

Lighting Soap So Texture and Color Survive
Soap has almost no specular highlight to define its shape, so flat frontal light turns a bar into a colored rectangle. Put your main light at roughly 45 degrees and slightly raking across the top, then fill the shadow side just enough to hold detail. Raking light is also what exposes soda ash on cold process bars as a chalky film, so steam or plane the hero bars before they go on set, and shoot fresh bars rather than aged ones that may have developed orange spots.
Color is the return-risk item. Neon micas and deep indigo or purple oxides regularly fall outside sRGB and clip into flat blocks with no swirl detail. Shoot raw, set a gray card white balance, export sRGB, and pull saturation back rather than up. For melt and pour or glycerin bars, kill the front light and put your source behind and slightly above the bar so the body glows and the embed reads through the resin.
Theme Crops, Variant Images, and Feed Rules
Pick one aspect ratio for every soap image in the store and stick to it. Dawn and most modern themes crop collection cards to a fixed shape, so a portrait 4:5 bar and a square 1:1 bar in the same collection will render at different visual sizes and different apparent bar thicknesses. Fill about 80 to 85 percent of the frame with the bar; theme padding will shrink it further.
If each scent is a variant rather than a separate product, assign a dedicated image to every variant so the picker swaps correctly instead of leaving a group shot on screen. And remember that Shopify syncs to Google Shopping, Meta and the Shop app, where the feed rules are stricter than your storefront: no watermarks, no promotional text, no borders on the primary image. Keep image one a clean bar, and save the ingredient callouts and "4.5 oz handmade" overlays for images three onward.
